- Project also includes workshops on storytelling to children
During the Christmas season, Alegro shopping centres will support and partner with Associação Nuvem Vitória, which develops volunteer work every night with hospitalized or institutionalized children by reading bedtime stories. The initiative begins with the arrival of Santa Claus to Alegro Alfragide, Montijo, Sintra and Setúbal on November 16th, and to Alegro Castelo Branco on November 30th.
The outcome of this partnership is the publication of the book “Contadores de Sorrisos” with 10 children’s stories that aim to generate smiles, written by Nuvem Vitória Association volunteers and with the collaboration of writer Inês Barata Raposo. The project is coordinated by renowned illustrator Paulo Galindro, who is also responsible for the book illustrations. A total of 27,000 copies are to be distributed to all children visiting Santa Claus in Alegro shopping centres.
Besides offering books, each of the Alegro shopping centres will also host a workshop with Nuvem Vitória to teach parents how to tell children’s stories and to promote bonds between adults and kids with bedtime reading.
Elsa Camacho, Director of Human Resources and Social Responsibility at Ceetrus Portugal, states that “this partnership with Associação Nuvem Vitória makes perfect sense, as the responsible axis of the Alegro brand materializes precisely in this incentive that strengthens the relationship between parents and children, or any other family member through books. In parallel, and with the € 5,000 donation that will support Nuvem Vitória’s work with hospitalized children, we want to add smiles to the lives of these children who are away from their homes.”
Fernanda Freitas, President of Associação Nuvem Vitória, adds that “this partnership with the Alegro brand is extremely important as it allows us not only to present our work to shopping centre visitors but also to offer some tools to families during the workshops that will help them to create soothing moments at bedtime; the donation naturally represents a tremendous support in our financial sustainability.”
